Three metaphysical insights from an Empath in Isolation

With widespread shelter-in-place requirements, we are each working from exotic, makeshift offices… like the kitchen. How many video conferences have you done in your PJs?

Recently, I was working with a client who is an Empath as well as a Senior Vice President at a Fortune 500 company.   Like most, her company has required all Headquarters staff to work remotely rather in their glass offices on the 22nd floor of a building in Midtown.

For a leader and friend to many of her colleagues, the first few weeks were super challenging with no in-person interaction…

and the next few weeks were super insightful!

As an Empath, she is aware that she picks up on the feelings and unexpressed emotions of her colleagues, her boss, her boss’s boss – anyone in proximity.

This is a challenge for many Empaths…

and for some who don’t think of themselves as Empaths.

While loving interaction, isolation has made her less available to serve as a sponge for other people’s stress.

Here are three metaphysical insights she discovered….

First, over the past few weeks, many of her usual physical complaints (like chronic shoulder pain) have simply disappeared.  Her workout routine, diet and sleep habits are largely unchanged so nothing in the physical domain to explain being pain-free.

Next, her thoughts are clearer.  She’s more calm.  Her choices are more authentic

She’s accepted a leadership role in an Environmental Governance project that honors the Earth by adopting more responsible manufacturing and distribution practices - a project that is totally aligned with her values.

Third, in saving an hour a day commuting, she’s able to walk outside, spend more time with her partner, enjoy sunshine through the trees during lunch on her deck and cultivate more awe in Nature.

Isolation has made each of us more acutely aware of our internal state of being.  As we gradually return to busy-ness, each of us will have enjoyed weeks and weeks of new priorities, habits and self-sensitivity.

I’d love to know…

What will you take from isolation and embrace as your new normal?
